Kitchen Pack with Me – University Edition

As University is fast approaching and those long awaited months are now turning into weeks, I thought I’d get ahead and begin packing up my suitcase for final year. It’s all becoming a bit too real now that I have had my yearly Home and Bargains trip for those core essentials. For those who don’t know me, Home (and) Bargains is my favourite shop, a one of a kind store with everything you could ever ask for, on a low budget basis. I am more than likely going to be found in the home decor isle trying to buy something I like just for the cheap sake of it. This happens every…single…time! After this eventful trip took place, Mum and I decided to head into the lounge and start packing all my kitchen utensils. From this, I realised there are SO many items for my kitchen you completely just forget about. It’s like they are so irrelevant until you unpack the dusty box which has been storing them in for the last couple of month. For this blog, I wanted to write my list of essential items you will need for your kitchen in Uni.

My Kitchen List

  • 4x Forks, Knives and Spoons (tea and tablespoons)
  • Set of sharp knives
  • Wooden spoon
  • Set of pan proof tools
  • Scissors
  • Garlic press
  • Can opener
  • Grater
  • Pizza cutter
  • Potato Peeler
  • 2-4x Dinner Plates and Bowls
  • Set of pans (all different sizes)
  • 2x Baking tray
  • Chopping board
  • Oven gloves
  • Colander
  • Mixing bowl
  • Weighing scales
  • Measuring jug
  • Glasses
  • Mugs
  • Tupperware
  • Tea Towels

This may seem like a lot, but they are my essentials I use whilst cooking in my university kitchen. I mean, I know a few people who cut their pizza with a knife or scissors, so I guess a pizza cutter isn’t ‘essential’ but it’s all up for your own interpretation.

My Favourite Kitchen Essential Stores (UK based)

Similar to my previous blog on what to pack for your bedroom at University, I wanted to give a list of my favourite stores I used for purchasing these essential items. I hope this gives you a better idea of where to go for your price range!

Places like Argos and Noahs Box even offer students a ‘Starter Kit’ for University, definitely something to look out for if you don’t want to individually buy products.

Cheaper/Low Budget Options:

  • Home Bargains
  • The Range
  • Ikea
  • Amazon
  • Wilkos

More Expensive Options:

  • John Lewis
  • Not On The High Street
  • Noahs Box

I’d love to know if you have any other stores which you love to go to for essentials, I am always looking for new places to take myself to shop for things for my kitchen in Uni!
